Subject: Congress: Take Action NOW to Protect Our Children Online!

Message:

Despite much talk, the last Congress (2021-22) passed NO significant child protection legislation. It is time for Congress to step up to protect our children online. On Tuesday, February 14th, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard from child advocates in a hearing on "Protecting Our Children Online." The hearing highlighted challenges youth encounter daily online—predators, sextortion schemes, violent pornography—and the critical need for Big Tech accountability. Please WATCH this vital hearing and support the following bills to protect children online from sexual exploitation: - SCREEN Act: requires pornography websites to verify the age of viewers to protect children from exposure to hardcore pornography and the negative impacts it has on their development - EARN IT Act: gives victims of child sexual abuse material (aka child pornography) the right to sue digital platforms that circulate this criminal content and a chance to restore their privacy - KIDS ONLINE SAFETY Act: creates a legally relevant “duty of care” requiring online apps and platforms to center the needs of children; requires more social media safeguards for children; and provides parents with tools to protect kids - PROTECT Act: requires pornography websites to verify the age and consent of individuals depicted in sexually explicit material to prevent the circulation of child sexual abuse material These are four examples of bills we expect to see reintroduced this Congress, passed through committee, and sent to the President for signature. It is time our children become a priority for Congress--they are being exploited and abused online with ZERO regulatory protection, so no current safeguards in place. It is time Congress takes REAL action! As your constituent, I look forward to seeing your efforts to protect our youth.
