Message:

I am deeply concerned about the wide variety of products Etsy sells which normalize child sexual abuse, misogyny, and/or sexual exploitation. Etsy should ban sex dolls and aggressively remove them from the platform, especially sex dolls that resemble minors. Sex dolls objectify women and fuel male sexual entitlement. Childlike sex dolls, which inevitably surface wherever sex dolls are sold, normalize child sexual abuse. Etsy should also cease selling “ageplay” and “ABDL” products that encourage adults to roleplay child sexual abuse. Child sexual abuse is not a fun game and adults should not be roleplaying these horrific scenarios. Etsy should also take much stronger action against the misogynistic products that litter the platform. Etsy claims to prohibit items that “glorify hatred towards people or otherwise demean people based upon… gender.” However, your platform is littered with merchandise that feature deeply misogynistic slogans such as “f**k me like I’m property” and “f**k me like you paid for me”, and which call women horrifically degrading names such as “c*mdumpster”, “f**ktoy”, “c*msl*t”, “sl*t”, “wh*re”, “owned”, and more. Despite the fact that pornography is banned in Etsy’s policies, it is easy to find. Many users testify to unwanted exposure to pornography and sexually explicit content on your platform. Please take stronger action to remove pornographic content from your platform, and improve your filtering mechanisms so that Etsy users are not subjected to seeing pornographic or sexually explicit content against their will. One Etsy seller aptly stated: “Etsy is essentially our landlord. If our landlord was plastering unsolicited porn all over the windows and doors of our shop and passing out graphic images to customers browsing our shops, it would be considered sexual harassment at best.” Please prioritize the safety of women and children by implementing these changes.
